Just like John Lennon wrote and recorded his first major solo single in a day's time 53 years ago and released it through Apple Records within a week, Toy Piano's CJ Marsicano did a similar approach when he created "Cotton" on August 9, 2023. Only, thanks to modern technological advances, no one has to wait a week for the song to leave the pressing plants. (And even then, the song would have either had to have been split into two parts for a 7" single, or waited for a second track to be added as the B-side of a 10" or 12" single!).

"I rolled out of bed early, grabbed my iPad and a MIDI controller, and had the track done within a half hour," says Mr. Marsicano, who seems to be increasingly turning into the Robert Pollard of electronic music with the prolific pace he's set for himself since the first Toy Piano album was released in April of 2023.

The opening salvo in a freshly planned indefinite series of impromptu recordings, Toy Piano drops the single "Cotton" almost instantly, mere days after their third album and first ambient affair, LOONA, was presented to all digital outlets and scheduled for a 9/1/2023 release. A rough mixed version was uploaded to Toy Piano's SoundCloud page within minutes of the recording's completion (the original rough mixed and unmastered version is added here as a Bandcamp bonus track). With minimal electronic instrumentation and a spontaneous dreamy vibe, "Cotton" continues in Toy Piano's ambient/new age direction while providing a little extra ear candy for those anticipating the formal release of LOONA.

And to think that by this time tomorrow, yet another track could find its way onto Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify and Apple Music... stay tuned.
